Limited edition of 5,000
Rare & Collectable
This rarity from almost thirty years ago was self-published, without an ISBN, by David Hockney Studio.
These photographic works pointed to a radically new synthesis in David Hockney's thought and activity as and photographer at the time of publication. The photographs fall into three distinct but linked groups. The large Snails Space photographs comprise a series of eight images of the interior and evolving products of Hockney's Los Angeles studio over a period beginning in March 1995, With the partial exception of the eighth and last photograph, the viewer is looking at naturalistic images of abstract paintings. This may come as something of a surprise, even a double shock.'
Hockney's reputation as a photographer was not built upon conventional naturalism, nor was his reputation as a painter built upon abstraction or non-figuration. Rather the reverse. Here, however, he seems to be inviting us to his studio and offering fresh thoughts on the relationship between naturalism and abstraction in a combination of painting and photography, while exploring, composing and playing with space and colour.
The above text is part of an essay by Mark Glazebrook included in the publication.

I’m delighted that I bought a copy of David Hockney’s past icon work. Not many pages but so worthwhile! If only there were 10 stars, I would have rated this publication so highly!
Lovely books at a great price, delivered really quickly and very well packaged.
I haven't used this book yet, but as a novice oil painter, it will be very helpful in learning techniques used by the masters, albeit quite basic approaches and styles. It gives step-by-step guidance via illustrated tutorials, basic information such as equipment and the colours to use in each exercise areprovided. What could possibly go wrong?
This is a comprehensive overview of works of art from earliest times until the late 20th century. It's immediately accessible to read and engaging. My only grumble is that many of the photos are small and in black and white. The text and the works themselves merit better treatment, but that would make this already weighty tome unmanageable and prohibitively expensive. I'm very pleased with this book and will enjoy it.
A lovely book, found by chance and given as a gift.
Bought as Present and they loved its unique format
Fascinating and good comparative text and images.
Excellent book, in depth text and plates that I haven't seen before, perfect!
Great book about the man of 60s music
Beautiful book - made a great gift. Thank you x
I bought to wrap up presents but it somehow felt wrong to cut up these wonderful graphic designs!
Great. Rapidio!
Another great read
