H.M. Bateman was the first truly modern British Cartoonist of the twentieth century. His dramatic and expressive drawings sizzled with intensity, he had the ability to "draw funnily". Known for The Man Who - a series which chronicled various social faux pas - he was an acute observer of British suburban life.
This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition H.M. Bateman: The Man Who Went Mad on Paper at the Cartoon Museum in 2012.
"Bateman had an explosive vivacity, an assurance of line and an eye for the banalities of life. He was the great visible master of his day." Ronald Searle
