Harland Miller's creativity as both artist and novelist culminates in his iconic paintings of battered book covers with cleverly invented titles. Initially appropriating the classic Penguin paperback before devising his own unique designs, Miller combines aspects of pop art, abstraction, and figurative painting to create highly coveted artworks that have won him a cult following.
This monograph covers nearly 20 years of his paintings, and features essays by Michael Bracewell, Catherine Ince and Martin Herbert.
Yorkshire-born Harland Miller has exhibited at ICA, White Cube, and Royal Academy in London; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; and Kunsthalle, Mannheim, and Blain Southern, Berlin.
Michael Bracewell is a British novelist, critic, curator, and cultural commentator.
Martin Herbert is a Berlin-based writer and critic.
Catherine Ince is senior curator for V&A East, and was previously curator at the Barbican, London.

Simon Cutts, pyclets (Coracle, 2026)
I read this compressed book with absorption, content. Cutts's method: inclusions from a batch of previous books, mixing in extraction from other writers. Compressed bulk. Sifting through, the rationale for inclusion or placement in the sequence's development is sometimes clear, sometimes oblique. Their brevity has a shortening effect, and the consequent generous white space acts as a leaven. There are garnishes, small colour photographs of pyclets at the foot of each page (seen larger under the laminating of the cover).
If you're looking for an active starter in Cutts's work, pyclets should do you fine. There's nothing lame, it's all vital, all enriching, blooming wonderful: filled with enriching ingredients, cold proof of Cutts's excellence. Here's your heritage; here's an heirloom. Eat it all up, crust and crumb.
