Text in English & Italian
Ilya Kabakov (1933-2023) was regarded as one of Russia's most important artists of his time. Since the beginning of his artistic investigation Kabakov, undisput-
ed protagonist of the international art scene centred his "poetics" on the
analysis of the Soviet social condition of the post-Stalin period.
Together with his wife Emilia, he developed Monument to a Lost Civilization - a project reconstructing the condition of life in the Soviet Union and its institutional paradigms through the voices, false hopes, and dreams of the people. This project, the principal work of the two artists for the over 10 years, is a monument to the civilisation into which they were born, where they studied, and where they lived: the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that no longer exists.
The Monument is comprised of a complex of 38 of the Kabakov's most significant
installations, realised over the span of his long career, which had been individually exhibited in various artistic institutions and brought together for the first time.
The installations - linked by the mise en scène of the everyday reality of communal living in the Soviet Union - are supplemented with documents and texts which are an integral part of the work itself and fundamental for understanding it. This book, which also includes writings by Kabakov, is a complete and accurate instrument with which to understand the work and minds of these artists.

Fantastic and speedy service
A brilliant book about a nearly-forgotten band, but thankfully this book rectifies that. Written by the surviving drummer and bassist, it is full of stories about their time in Hamburg & touring round Germany & Japan. A must for anyone who loves the Liverpool Merseybeat scene and the hard-driving music it produced.
I’m delighted that I bought a copy of David Hockney’s past icon work. Not many pages but so worthwhile! If only there were 10 stars, I would have rated this publication so highly!
Always exactly as described and delivered within 2 days! Beyond my expectations, super happy with the books and the service
The book was quite a hefty one for the price. The photographs were magnificent portraying city scenes at night when human life was absent, giving the places a life of their own.
It just wants me to take my camera phone out and explore the city streets I've in,at night.
Great value
So well worth buying. Full of interest for Beatles lovers, Easy to read text, well laid out with many iconic photographs. Very please I bought a copy.
Another great book I couldn’t resist adding to my collection from BooksaboutArt. Full of innovative designs, well illustrated throughout, it gives an expansive picture of western architecture. A hugely enjoyable book.
Lovely book, wonderful quality, not read it yet but looking forward to it.
Great gift
Now a frequent flyer, I've yet to be disappointed, a wholly brilliant concept that just makes sense.
Lovely book with top quality pictures and a wonderful overview of all aspects of Tom’s art.
Also comes complete with a thought provoking introduction from Tom, and a wonderful critique/synopsis of Tom’s background art philosophy from James Fox.
