This publication follows the exhibition, Colors, that established Liu Wei’s position at the centre of the artistic conversation in China. It contained a universe of new works— massive paintings, a wall of video screens scrolling through coloured backgrounds, sculptures in books, and glass-sliced metal—which brought together the strands of Wei's practice that had been, for years before that point, notoriously hard to categorise. It explained without saying directly (the only text in the exhibition was a blurb of around 300 words), how these various, seemingly scattered, undertakings formed a coherent whole, and why they should be considered important.

Includes articles by Gao Shiming, Lu Mingjun, Francesco Bonami, and Yuko Hasegawa, addressing Liu Wei’s works from their perspectives. Preface by Philip Tinari, an exhibition floor plan, images of installation views, colour plates of works, and artist biography are also included.
