A powerful commemoration of notable moments of protest, Picturing Resistance highlights the important American social justice movements of the last seven decades. Including both black-and-white and color photographs, this important record pairs iconic and unexpected images with insightful narrative captions that contextualise the meanings behind the moments. UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism professor Ken Light and author Melanie Light have carefully curated unconventional photographs of the most memorable moments in twentieth- and twenty-first-century protest history, offering a fresh perspective on these important occasions.
In place of the iconic image of Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking at the March on Washington, Picturing Resistance conveys the feeling of pain and frustration of the time period by instead showing him moments after being arrested, restrained against a police station table. The moments captured in Picturing Resistance take the reader on a journey through decades of people-powered protest, featuring images from the front lines of the civil rights, women's, environmental, and disability rights movements, as well as contemporary movements like Black Lives Matter and March for Our Lives.
Picturing Resistance will inspire revolutionary thinkers, activists, and dreamers of all stripes to celebrate the milestones of the past as we build a progressive future.

Over time ‘books about art’ has without a doubt led me to find some of the greatest works of high quality literature their selection covering such a wide ranging subject offers. Recently I have made some great discoveries browsing their website and if I can find any fault at all, it is that the literature on offer is far too tempting, especially at such bargain prices! Add really speedy delivery and ‘books about art’ provides book lovers with the perfect service.
This is a well researched, in depth, yet easy to read book that covers Warren Zevon’s 12 major album releases, while also detailing some of his more obscure recordings. In it author Peter Gallagher analyses ‘each album, every song’ as the book cover quotes, that Warren Zevon recorded up until and including his final studio album ‘The Wind’ released in 2003. It really does make the perfect companion to all of Warren’s recorded work and an essential read for anyone who appreciates the music of this late, great, singer songwriter. A must for the lover of well written songs!
Everything was as described and super quick delivery! Absolut 5-star service - would highly recommend!
I didnot know of Lee Krasner until I bought this book,I found it fascinating and an insight not only to krasner but also to the abstract artists in and around
Jackson Pollock.and there attitude to female artists.
In all an excellent book and a really good buy.
Didn't quite realise just how comprehensive this critical writings survey would be; that said, it not only made my day, it made my week and – given that it's 536 pages long – it will probably make my month, too!
Excellent, really happy with the book and customer service.
