The highly anticipated, definitive reference on Stuart Davis’s paintings, watercolours, drawings, and published illustrations.
Stuart Davis (1892–1964) made a mark on the art world early in his career, first with his Ashcan works and then with his highly personal version of Cubism, which firmly established American modernism as a force that could rival its European counterpart. Over the course of six decades, Davis produced artworks that drew inspiration from the European modernists but were deeply rooted in the popular culture of the United States. Jazz music and hipster talk, vaudeville stages, city streetscapes, New England fishing villages, gasoline stations, store fronts, and commercial packaging and advertising images were among the sources that infused his art with energy, bringing crisp edges, radiant colour, and syncopated rhythms to a vast body of paintings, watercolours, and drawings.
Documenting the life’s work of this prolific and highly influential artist―who affected almost every development in American art from second-generation Ashcan realism around 1912 to colour field and geometric painting in the 1960s―is a monumental achievement. In these three volumes, the editors have catalogued 1,749 artworks by the artist―including more than 600 works never previously illustrated―providing extensive documentation and information about each one. A detailed chronology of Davis’s life, as well as an enlightening discussion of the compositional relationship between certain works spanning his oeuvre, rounds out this study. Exquisitely designed and produced, Stuart Davis: A Catalogue Raisonné will be the definitive reference on the artist’s work for many years to come.

Over time ‘books about art’ has without a doubt led me to find some of the greatest works of high quality literature their selection covering such a wide ranging subject offers. Recently I have made some great discoveries browsing their website and if I can find any fault at all, it is that the literature on offer is far too tempting, especially at such bargain prices! Add really speedy delivery and ‘books about art’ provides book lovers with the perfect service.
This is a well researched, in depth, yet easy to read book that covers Warren Zevon’s 12 major album releases, while also detailing some of his more obscure recordings. In it author Peter Gallagher analyses ‘each album, every song’ as the book cover quotes, that Warren Zevon recorded up until and including his final studio album ‘The Wind’ released in 2003. It really does make the perfect companion to all of Warren’s recorded work and an essential read for anyone who appreciates the music of this late, great, singer songwriter. A must for the lover of well written songs!
Everything was as described and super quick delivery! Absolut 5-star service - would highly recommend!
I didnot know of Lee Krasner until I bought this book,I found it fascinating and an insight not only to krasner but also to the abstract artists in and around
Jackson Pollock.and there attitude to female artists.
In all an excellent book and a really good buy.
Didn't quite realise just how comprehensive this critical writings survey would be; that said, it not only made my day, it made my week and – given that it's 536 pages long – it will probably make my month, too!
Excellent, really happy with the book and customer service.
