Focusing on American artists who emerged from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, the book highlights dynamic practices in a variety of media: from performance to photography; video to installation; painting to writing.

Simon Cutts - use your loaf

Simon Cutts, pyclets (Coracle, 2026)

I read this compressed book with absorption, content. Cutts's method: inclusions from a batch of previous books, mixing in extraction from other writers. Compressed bulk. Sifting through, the rationale for inclusion or placement in the sequence's development is sometimes clear, sometimes oblique. Their brevity has a shortening effect, and the consequent generous white space acts as a leaven. There are garnishes, small colour photographs of pyclets at the foot of each page (seen larger under the laminating of the cover).

If you're looking for an active starter in Cutts's work, pyclets should do you fine. There's nothing lame, it's all vital, all enriching, blooming wonderful: filled with enriching ingredients, cold proof of Cutts's excellence. Here's your heritage; here's an heirloom. Eat it all up, crust and crumb.
