This book accompanied an exhibition of immersive installations at ICA Boston.
The desire to collect objects and images of personal significance, and to make connections between them, is a nearly universal human experience. For centuries, artists have collected artworks, along with diverse cultural artifacts and natural materials, as vital sources of inspiration and to create highly individualised models of their world. The Artist’s Museum begins with this impulse to collect and connect, bringing together large-scale installations, photography, film, and videos that employ artworks from the past as material in the present, animating existing artworks, images, and histories to reveal art’s unexpected relationships and affinities. Each of the artists in The Artist’s Museum reimagines the lives of artworks and charts recurring forms and themes across cultures and history. They tweak the language of museum display and organisation to engage a variety of disciplines and subjects, from dance, music, and design to gender, sexuality, and technology.
Among the artists included are Rosa Barba, Carol Bove, Anna Craycroft, Christian Marclay, Mark Leckey, Pierre Leguillon, Rosemarie Trockel, Goshka Macuga, and Sara VanDerBeek.
Essays offer new scholarship, extensive documentation and analysis of each artist's works, and a compendium of historical exhibitions and artworks that serve as important precedents for the exhibition."

Was looking for quite a niche book and it was a decent price and came quickly. Can't fault the service

Well packaged, arrived quickly, very pleased with books.
I love this book. It's very readable, informative and well written, covering one of the most exciting and revolutionary periods of art history. The author includes glimpses of how the artists' early work fared at auction and the public's reaction to the new art movements in exhibitions.
Well all I can say after my experience is what a great site and service, ordered my first set of books, and through my own mistake they were sent back, this is where they truly shone, having been in touch with them, they helped me quickly get them sent back out, I added more books to the order, they arrived with-in 2 days, perfect condition, perfect delivery. Very very happy.
Would I use again. Very very much so, yes you can buy books anywhere. BUT, would you get the service if there’s an issue. I can’t fault the way they dealt with my issue , even if it was caused by myself. All the books were pristine. A+
I love Books About Art so much I feel conflicted about reviewing them. I have told friends and they are similarly addicted to a thoughtfully curated, wide ranging selection of books that cover all kinds of culture and always arrive promptly, as described. Just don't tell anyone I said so.
Excellent book, well worth the money and in excellent condition. Delivered early than I expected can't fault this company never let's you down, thank you.
A very readable and accessible guide to pivotal and controversial works of modern art. Each movement or time period is explained with useful timelines to provide wider historical context in which to place the artists and their work. Each selected art work is explained, the reasoning behind it, and why is was considered controversial. A really clear and useful guide.
I have only recently discovered Books About Art and have been delighted with the quality of the books on offer at such good prices. I've been delighted with my purchases so far, and the service is excellent too.
I was really pleased with the order I placed. Some books where gifts and the rest where for myself. Such great value and I benefited from using the free delivery offer. I was impressed with the packaging as each book was in good condition. Great communication about delivery times.
John Broadley is one of my favorite illustrators and also one of my absolute favorite books ever!
The special shipping to Switzerland arrived very quickly and the book was perfectly wrapped! I E-Mailed the owner for a request to ship the book to Switzerland and he answered really fast and was very friendly.
I'm very happy about my purchase and can only recommend it.
This is the most beautiful book recording the last days of an iconic building. A book to leave open on certain pages, to devour & enjoy as you wish.
