Modern British Designers traces 50 years of creative genius and innovation in British design via the V&A's spectacular and extensive pattern collections. Though spanning five decades, and including such designers as Terence Conran, Zandra Rhodes and Shirley Craven, the designs all incorporate art, colour and wit with fresh technique, revision and subversion. 

Many of the designers featured were trained in the renowned British art schools of the Royal College of Art (RCA) and Central School of Art and Design (now Central Saint Martins). Their talents were developed in fabric design courses that fostered strong links to industry, helping to establish young students in the competitive world of textile manufacturing. These designers became part of the government's efforts to shape and foster 'good' design for the nation.

The V&A Pattern series reveals the museum's spectacular and extensive pattern collections. Each title in the series includes a free CD of high resolution images.
